Carolina Crown Makeup Curriculum

Updated: Jun 19, 2019

Hey y'all!

I had the BEST time helping curate a look for your upcoming season. You all were the best class and I cannot wait to how you all own it.

Here are some notes from class. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need clarification or have questions not addressed below.

Skin Prep:

Start with clean, moisturized skin.

Avoid moisturizers and primers with silicon or dimethicone, because these give moisturizers and cosmetics 'slip' and they will make the makeup just slip right off the face.

Here are some moisturizers that are great and do not have silicon.

Sweat Control:

If you really sweat or need the extra prep, I like Mehron Skin Prep.

But an old drag queen trick is to use milk of magnesia, or even antiperspirant deodorant, though it can be harsh on the skin.

So be sure you cleanse your skin afterwards to prevent damage.

Now, I saw some of you grab makeup wipes to remove makeup before practice. They're a great way to remove makeup on the go, but did you know you need to remove the soap they leave behind? Ideally a sink, cleanser, and warm water is best, but in a pinch I like water wipes or a wet rag.

The Look:

I had a BLAST teaching y'all this look. It went too fast, though and I want to be sure you all have a good handle on it, and maybe offer some tips as you practice.

The flat brushes in the brush kits will give you a more pigmented application than the fluffy ones.

Loose powder packed on heavily, then swept away with a powder brush will help set the foundation and help it last. This is not 'baking'. Leaving on loose powder longer will not make the makeup last longer; truly, it is pressing it into the foundation that does the trick. I like using a sponge. You cannot over-powder because it will only stick to what is 'wet'.

I do love a powder guard if you decide to do your foundation before your eye makeup.

Fixing Broken Makeup:

I am terribly sorry I forgot rubbing alcohol to show you how to repair broken makeup. Explaining it is different than showing, so check out this quick video, and I would use 90% alcohol because it dries more quickly.

Thanks again, y'all, I really enjoyed class. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
